When it comes to food, Amanda and I are the same person. This makes her my favourite restaurant-going buddy, since whenever we go out to eat, all we need is one glance at the menu and, through some weird gluttonous unspoken communication, we already know what we’ll be sharing. This made her the obvious choice as a partner for the Chocolate Throwdown (also, I kind of think she’s awesome). We were inspired by Ben and Jerry’s fanciful ice cream flavours, specifically Jimmy Fallon’s Late Night Snack, which, among other things, features fudge-covered potato chip clusters. And since neither of us has an insane sweet tooth, we decided to balance out the sweetness by adding as many salty components as possible. So, let us now present our favourite things!

They say the best way to someone’s heart is though their stomach. If this is true, I feel that there are many foodies out there who will be cooking up a romantic dinner for their lover this Valentine’s Day.  I for one always enjoy cooking for a loved one and I pay special attention when planning out my menu to ensure that what I make is going to be delicious.

Apple Cake with Whisky Flavoured Whipped Cream

Apples are the quintessential fall food! Savoury or sweet, they give any dish a rustic comfort food like quality. Like all my ‘throwdown’ dishes, I take inspiration from the local farmers’ markets, which for this occasion, highlight the many apple varieties grown in the Montreal surrounding areas. From the sweet and pulpy Gala to the tart and crisp Spartan and Macintosh varieties, any dish is bound to reflect the sweet subtleties derived from any of apple varieties used.
